Singapore, May 19, 2022 – Crypto.com, the world’s fastest growing cryptocurrency platform, announced today that the company has committed a two-year gift to support the University of Pennsylvania’s (Penn) new Crypto Research Laboratory Fund. The contribution will fund research on cryptography and coding, designed to solve real-world problems in high privacy, security, and decentralisation of blockchains.
Goals of the Gift
The two-year research gift will be utilized to conceive a new lab within Penn’s School of Engineering and Applied Science under the management of Professor Brett Hemenway Falk, Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science. The two primary focus areas of this research will be: 1) privacy and security in digital environments, and; 2) facilitating transparency and trust.
The research will further examine cryptography and coding theory, with an emphasis on translating mathematically sound, rigorous algorithmic developments into practical tools for solving real-world problems.
Prof. Hemenway Falk frequently partners with external stakeholders to identify societal problems and solutions enabled by computer science, and this latest partnership with Crypto.com will look to extend his efforts in these areas.
Supporting Independent, Academic Research
“The focus of the University of Pennsylvania’s crypto lab will be tremendously valuable for wider, real-life blockchain applications while also exploring new approaches to further privacy and security capabilities,” said Eric Anziani, Chief Operating Officer at Crypto.com. “We are incredibly excited to support the foundation of this blockchain research lab within such an esteemed academic program.”
This gift follows several other academic initiatives Crypto.com has committed to since 2021. Crypto.com also supports the Secure Blockchain Initiative at Carnegie Mellon University and the Blockchain Association of Singapore.
Research at Crypto.com
Crypto.com also maintains its own Research & Insights team, employing experienced academic researchers that publish a monthly series of open-access reports on topics ranging from crypto market sizing to analyses of crypto security with the goal of educating the global crypto community.
“Decentralisation and privacy are at the core of web3, the next phase of the internet,” added Dr Henry Hon, Head of Research at Crypto.com. “Penn’s research supports the evolution of a safe digital space. The more secure blockchain becomes, the more its application in the real world grows.”
