What are Filecoin and FIL?
Filecoin is a peer-to-peer network for decentralized file storage. It connects people or apps that need storage with storage providers that offer capacity on the network, using economic incentives and cryptographic proofs to support that storage model.
FIL is the cryptocurrency that powers Filecoin. Clients can pay storage providers in FIL for storage, and storage providers can receive FIL for providing storage space and helping operate the Filecoin blockchain.
How can you buy FIL in the US?
In the Crypto.com App, the basic Filecoin buying flow is:
- Create an account and complete the required verification.
- Add funds using an available US payment or funding method.
- Tap 'Buy,' search for Filecoin and enter the US dollar (USD) amount.
- Tap 'Confirm' if you’re ready to place the order.
Trading is subject to account verification and eligibility.
Can you buy a fraction of FIL?
Yes. You don’t need to buy a whole Filecoin token. US customers can buy fractional amounts of Filecoin, with purchases starting from US$1.
That means a purchase can be based on a US dollar amount instead of the price of one full FIL token.
Which payment methods can US customers use for FIL?
US payment and funding options shown for Filecoin include bank transfer, credit or debit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. US dollars (USD) are the primary fiat currency for US users, and you can deposit USD via Automated Clearing House (ACH) or wire transfer to your Fiat Wallet.
Depositing USD directly via Local Bank Transfer lets you avoid foreign exchange fees when buying FIL at the market price. Other transaction fees and spread may apply.
