Chart of the Week

The founder of Blur, Tieshun Roquerre (aka Pacman), launched a Layer-2 (L2) network called ‘Blast’ to address issues in the NFT industry. The network aims to tackle high transaction costs, introduce new trading instruments such as NFT perpetual futures (NFT perps), and provide yield generation opportunities.

Blast gained traction recently. It accumulated a TVL of over US$350 million and 47,637 deposit addresses at the time of writing.

[Upcoming] Dark Lions

Crypto.com provides the backstory of the Dark Lions, a group of apex predators set on destroying the Loaded Lions and Cyber Cubs. The Dark Lions, who have time-travelled to the present from 370 years in the future, were once a lost species until the Loaded Lions took them in. The Loaded Lions provided them with resources and weapons. However, conflicts arose between the two Lions, leading the Dark Lions to go back in time to stop the rise of the Loaded Lions and claim control over Mane City for themselves. The Cyber Cubs join forces with the Loaded Lions to warn them of the impending danger and the battle for dominance begins.

News Highlights

• Nike collaborated with fashion brand RTFKT to release NFT-infused sneakers dubbed the “RTFKT Dunk Genesis”. These sneakers can be pre-ordered on the RTFKT website and do not require buyers to own an NFT first. The “VOID Edition” will be available to the public on 31 July 2024, followed by the “Ghost Edition” in August.
• Animoca Brands, a prominent player in the metaverse and Web3 gaming spaces, announced a collaboration with Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab. The partnership aims to integrate Ubisoft’s PvP game, “Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles,” into Animoca Brands’s membership project, Mocaverse. This integration will enable Mocaverse players to engage in exciting battles with mythical Champions. 
• Ubisoft announced a free Ethereum NFT giveaway for its upcoming game called Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. The NFTs, known as “Warlords,” are profile pictures (PFPs) that offer early access to mint in-game “Champions” figurines. A total of 9,999 “Warlords” NFTs will be created, with 8,000 available through the free minting process. 1,000 will be offered to the Oasys community, and 999 are reserved by Ubisoft for marketing purposes and giveaways. The game is set to launch on PC in early 2024. It is described as an online strategy game featuring fantasy characters and unique Champions.
• CoinGecko, a major cryptocurrency price tracking website, acquired Zash, a startup specialising in NFT data infrastructure. The deal’s terms have not been disclosed. CoinGecko plans to integrate Zash’s NFT data into its API by the second quarter of 2024.
