Scaling solutions refer to technologies that operate above a blockchain protocol to enhance the speed and effectiveness of the underlying blockchain. By processing transactions off the mainnet, Layer-2 solutions, such as Zero-knowledge rollups (ZK-Rollups) and Optimistic Rollups, aim to address the scalability challenge. Layer-2 solutions offer several benefits, including improved transactions per second (TPS), lowered gas fees, preserved security, and application-specific networks.
