Crypto.com Appoints Thales Freitas as General Manager of Brazil

The Brazil market continues to represent a significant opportunity for growth

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,  October 30, 2024 — Crypto.com today announced the appointment of Thales Freitas as General Manager of Brazil. With more than 15 years of experience in finance, B2B technology and fintech, Freitas brings a wealth of knowledge in developing and expanding corporate growth opportunities in Latin America. 

Freitas has built a solid career in capital markets, having specialized in building and managing businesses in emerging segments. Most recently, Freitas served as CEO of Bitso in Brazil, with a focus on expanding the usability, accessibility and security of crypto assets and accelerating the financial inclusion of Brazilians. Prior to joining Bitso, Freitas was the country manager at Global66, and previously served in leadership roles at Citibank and HSBC. Freitas graduated in economics from Ibmec.

In December 2022, Crypto.com secured the Payment Institution License (EMI) in Brazil from the Central Bank of Brazil. The license allows Crypto.com to offer regulated fiat wallet services for customers in Brazil. The Crypto.com Visa Card also has been available in Brazil since November 2021, providing customers with the ability to make purchases with local fiat and their cryptos. According to a September 2024 Chainalysis report, Brazil ranks 10th in the global crypto adoption index.
